Name of Man Shot Outside SF Nightclub Released

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- Authorities have released the name of a man fatally shot outside a nightclub early Sunday near San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Officer says 19-year-old Lawon Hall of Richmond was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman says the shooting around 1:40 a.m. took place outside the Suede Nightclub and Lounge on Bay Street. Four others were wounded.

Sgt. Wilfred Williams says the shooting started when one person opened fire into a crowd of people after an altercation inside the club.

Williams says an armed security guard came upon the scene and fired his weapon, hitting the suspect.

The suspect, who has not been named by police, is in custody at San Francisco General Hospital. Authorities are now investigating whether there is a second suspect.

A police spokesman tells KCBS the security guard may have been one of the city's "patrol specials," a group of community police officers chartered separately from the San Francisco Police Department that operates under its supervision.

A spokeswoman for San Francisco General Hospital says they are treating four male victims of the shooting. All are in critical condition.
