SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Following an 18-month long investigation, San Jose police have arrested a number of alleged members of a brutal street gang in connection with a series of violence crimes including homicides and drive by shootings.
A grand jury has returned 13 indictments against possible members of El Hoyo Palmas, a Norteno street gang.
Detectives say the gang was responsible for killing 19-year-old Luis Medina, 22-year-old Rigoberto Gonzalez, and two others.
”The third murder that this group was involved in was the murder of Edgar Martinez, a 15-year-old boy,” said Lt. J.R. Gamez, head of the police department's homicide unit. “They were also responsible for the murder of Hernan Koba, a 33-year-old who was killed March 30th, 2007.”
Gamez said that some of the victims weren’t gang members, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
