2 Adults Killed, 4 Kids Hurt in San Jose Accident

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- An accident in San Jose Sunday night took a heavy toll. Two adults were killed and four children were hurt when a two-door coupe rear-ended a Ford Explorer and caused the sport utility vehicle to flip over, fire officials said.

The two-vehicle crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 237 at North First Street, according to San Jose fire Capt. Barry Stallard.

Of the six people in the Explorer, two were pronounced dead at the scene -- a man and a woman in their late teens or early 20s -- and four children ranging from ages 5 to 15 were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition, Stallard said.

The two people in the coupe were not seriously injured, according to Stallard.

ListenKCBS' Matt Bigler Reports

All lanes of eastbound Highway 237 were shut down and traffic was diverted at Great America Parkway in Santa Clara, while the California Highway Patrol investigated the fatal crash.
