A Mission District Mural Honors the SF Giants’ Latino Players

VizquelSAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- A mural unveiled in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, honors the Giants 50-year history in San Francisco and the team's connection to the City's Mission District.

The mural graces the side of the PG&E substation on 19th street, between Lexington and San Carlos streets.

”It took us three weeks of painting, but we’ve been negotiating this since the beginning of the year,” said Susan Cervantes, founder of Precita Eyes Mural and Arts Visitor Center, which gathered artists for the painting. “These are all great upcoming, emerging artists, and this gave them the opportunity to collaborate.”

Giants players such as Omar Vizquel adorn the mural. Vizquel is shown playing the drums, one of his favorite pastimes.

At the dedication ceremony players such as former Giant Tito Fuentes, were lifted by cherry picker to sign their names next to their likenesses.
