All eyes on "Pussycat Preacher" at San Jose Film Fest

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- One of the most talked about documentaries at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose this week is about a former stripper who now preaches to sex workers. It’s called the “Pussycat Preacher,” and it focuses on the life of Heather Veitch, and her quest to bring the gospel to women who work in the Southern California sex industry.

She, and a team of other women, would get the women’s attention by buying private dances. “But instead of receiving the dance, I spent time talking to them about God, and the fact that God loves them. I would tell them that there’s nothing they’ve ever done that God wouldn’t forgive them for,” said Veitch.

Veitch said that the biggest backlash she has experienced has not been from the pornography industry, but from the church itself.

”The biggest beef I had with the Christian church is that they think my breasts are too large to preach the gospel. I’m constantly proving to them that that isn’t true. It’s okay to have big knockers and spread the word at the same time,” said Veitch.

The film’s director Bill Day is doing a series of films on the lives of activists. The “Pussycat Preacher” had its debut at Cinequest, but is also available for download.
