Another Protestor Takes to UC Berkeley Trees

Tree SitterBERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS) - Another protestor has taken to the trees on the UC Berkeley campus.

"You're a freak, why don't you do something really worthwhile," offered one passerby in front of Wheeler Hall, who was clearly not supportive of this latest protest, staged by an individual who goes by the name "Fresh."

Fresh has spent the last eleven days living in an oak tree in the middle of campus. A head scarf obscures the man's face, but from 25 ft. in the air, he was willing to answer questions from reporters. "I feel great," he declared. "I feel like I'm just getting stronger."

However, a police barricade was erected and there are two officers keeping watch on Fresh and the tree in which he is sitting.

Fresh is calling on the UC regents to democratize, and focus on green issue.

Fresh appears to be gaining attention, while protestors who staged something of a sit-in amongst a grove of trees near Memorial Stadium may be losing the spotlight. It's kind of out of the way, people don't really pass by there as much," said UC Berkeley sophomore Albert Kong. "But this is really in the middle, everyone walks by here like, every day you know, and it's a way to get attention."

One student was arrested by police last week after she tried to pass a protestor water.

According to authorities, these protests are simply draining resources.
