Atonement

Rated R
Ian McEwan's novel is popular for its powerful story of deceit, class warfare and love. For once, all the passion and beauty of a great book has been illuminated onto the big screen in this sumptuous drama. Screenwriter Christopher Hampton and Director Joe Wright have crafted a stunning, big-screen-only film, filled with characters and situations that fully engage us. Keira Knightley portrays a girl to the manor born, with a younger sister (Saoirse Ronan) who is both a talented writer.. and a confused adolescent. When an event occurs involving the son of the family's housekeeper (James McAvoy) lives are forever changed. Every frame is gorgeous, Knightley luminous, McCovoy strong and unforgettable in a challenging leading role. Four hats and definitely on my Top Ten List this year.
