 SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- A San Jose city council member wants to do something about second hand pornography at public libraries.
Councilman Pete Constant says that high-tech filters would keep library visitors from viewing porn, which could be seen by children.
”There’s a federal law called the Child Internet Protection Act, that actually requires any library that receives federal funding to have these filters in place,” said Constant.
The proposal has plenty of support, including the Supreme Court, but the city of San Jose has yet declare a policy direction in the matter.
”Once we’ve made that decision to send it to library staff, we’ll do some public outreach to find the best way to implement the policy, which filtering software to use, and how to work out the practical day-to-day uses of it,” said Constant.
Constant says it’s a problem for the city if libraries can’t offer a safe environment for children.
