SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- The Santa Clara Valley Water District has temporarily banned boating on all ten of its reservoirs.
The district's board voted 4-3 Tuesday to keep boats out of the water until May 23, the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. The agency hopes to come up with a plan by then that would allow inspection of boats for an invasive mussel.
The zebra mussel has not turned up in Santa Clara County, and officials are hoping to keep it that way. The invasive shellfish has invaded a portion of the state's waterways and damaged intake pipes.
