C.E.O.s Bike to Work in Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Silicon Valley kicked off bike-to-work-week Monday, as more than 50 CEO's donned their spandex to join in a "celebrity" bike ride.

”Silicon Valley has 300 sunny days each year and flat conditions. Forty percent of us have commutes that are five miles or less each way. It’s hard to get much better than this,” said Carl Guardino, President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.

Many companies encourage their employees to cycle or take transit to work. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed says they are trying to do even more to make things better for bicyclists.

”We have 46 miles of creek trails and we’re hoping to connect them up so that we have 100 miles, cause that’s a great place for everybody to ride their bikes,” said Reed.

According to the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, there's been a jump in the number of cyclists riding to work largely due to rising gas prices.
