CSU Long Beach Gets $16 Million for Music Students

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Cal State Long Beach is singing a happy tune.

The estate of the late real estate businessman Bob Cole has made a record $16.4 million donation to provide music scholarships at California State University, Long Beach.

The university will rename its Department of Music the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music.

The Long Beach real estate entrepreneur and amateur pianist died in 2004. His interest in music inspired the Bob Cole Trust to make the donation to Cal State Long Beach.

University spokeswoman Toni Beron says the gift means there will be a dramatic increase in the number of conservatory scholarships.
