SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Former talk radio host Bernie Ward surrendered to authorities Friday, to begin his seven-year prison term for distributing child pornography online.
Ward's fate has been determined but his case has renewed questions in the legal community, and among child advocates, about the effectiveness of current laws.
Defense attorney Doren Weinberg said harsher sentencing of the end user does nothing to control the real problem, "the creation and dissemination of the stuff."
Robert Fellmeth, executive director of the Children's Advocacy Institute at U.C. San Diego saw his point. "I want to throw the book at them," said Fellmeth. " I just want to throw the book at them in a proportionate manner. I would rather throw a heavier book at the producers."
