SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- With more people falling behind on their home loans and other bills, consumer advocates say they’re seeing an increase in aggressive debt collection.
There have been so many complaints about questionable tactics by collection agencies that the California Attorney General’s office is looking into them, according to state officials.
Complaints against debt collectors has risen 26 percent in 2007, according to the Council of Better Business Bureaus. There is little doubt the mortgage crisis is a contributing factor, said Dan Parrish with Consumer Credit Counseling of San Francisco.
