Construction Continues on Sunnyvale Town Center

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- There is some good news involving the South Bay economy, with word that construction on the new Sunnyvale Town Center is still on.

For weeks there have been rumors that the long awaited plan had hit a roadblock, but Sunnyvale officials want to assure residents that construction of the $400 million center remains on schedule.

The new downtown development will feature a variety of retail stores, office space, condos and theaters near an outdoor plaza. The project ran into financial problems twice in the last decade, but that ended when a new developer took over.

”I’m not sure what prompted these recent rumors because there is a lot of progress on the construction,” said city spokesman Adam Levermore-Rich. “The buildings are going up, and if you drive by you can see a lot of work going on.”

The project is located at Murphy and McKinley Avenues, and is expected to open late next year.
