SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- People from across the country gathered in Golden Gate Park's National AIDS Memorial Grove Monday to observe the 20th annual World AIDS Day.
The Sterling Family came call the way from Louisville, Kentucky to join the call to translate their sorrow into action. Ally Sterling is one of two children in the family who was diagnosed with HIV. She credits her recovery to new medication.
"There are many people here in the United States who are literally waiting for new medication to help them survive, and some don't make it," said Sterling.
After speeches and prayers, the guests moved to the Circle of Friends where newly engraved names of those lost to AIDS were read aloud.
