Arsonist Strikes Again in East Bay

RICHMOND, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Arson investigators were looking into four more suspicious fires in Richmond and El Sobrante Saturday night, bringing to 14 the number of car fires within a week’s time.

All the fires have taken place within a half mile of each other in the East Bay. The first 10 fires took place within a span of a half hour in the Richmond and El Sobrante areas, according to officials with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The first two fires Saturday night were in Richmond, near the intersections of Fieldcrest and Fleetwood and Mitey Mite and Heavenly Ridge Lanes. No injuries were reported.

“I hope no one’s being targeted,” said Antoinette Holmes whose car was burned in El Sobrante. “What’s going to happen when they get bored with setting the cars on fire? Is it going to escalate?”

A man in a black hooded sweater was seen leaving the scene in Richmond, according to Sgt. Bisa French of the Richmond Police Department. Shortly after, two other car fires were reported in El Sobrante. No suspect information was available for those locations.
