OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- Emergency repairs were completed on the two right lanes of the northbound Nimitz freeway at High Street, after a fairly large hole opened up on the roadway Friday morning.
The three-foot wide, three-foot long, three-foot deep hole appeared just about 8:30 a.m. in time for the morning commute, according to the highway patrol. The last minute repairs were finished just in time for the afternoon rush.
Meanwhile, Caltrans has decided that troublesome section of highway should be replaced, since it needs emergency repairs about every couple of months, said Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus.
The $175 million project will begin next spring and take five years to complete, he said. Construction could be tricky for drivers since Highway 880 is considered the workhorse of freeways in the East Bay.
