SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Any business in San Francisco that has 20 or more employees must now provide health benefits.
For Zazie Restaurant in Cole Valley that costs the owners $108,000 each year. This has prompted the owners to charge a one-dollar surcharge per customer. This is the only way the restaurant can avoid raising the menu prices.
”I would be fine with the city splitting theses costs with us,” said owner Jennifer Piallat. “I would have taken that $54,000 hit. But the $108,000 is being passed on to the egg-eating customers.”
Café Flore on Market Street does plan to raise its prices to cover health benefits, starting March first.
