Fatal Officer Involved Shooting in Santa Clara

Santa Clara Police Lt. Phil Cooke says his agency, along with officers from Sunnyvale and the Highway Patrol, were assisting in the search for a suspect in a homicide in Marysville.

"Our officers were assisting they received information that their suspect was in our city and we were trying to assist them by locating him," Cooke said.

The officer came across the suspect on Bowe Avenue near El Camino and an officer involved shooting ensued. Cooke said the suspect fired several times at an officer who returned fire. The suspect then fled into a nearby creek.

"A short time later they found him in the creek where additional shots were fired," Cooke said. "The suspect is now deceased at the scene."
