SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- If you missed out on a summer vacation it’s not too late, post-Labor day travelers may still find a deal.
San Francisco International Airport spokesman Mike McCarron says post-Labor Day travelers may still find a deal.
“Between Labor Day and Thanksgiving… that’s one of the slower times for the travel industry,” said San Francisco International Airport spokesman Mike McCarron. “The other time is after Christmas until about Easter break. That’s another good time to look for travel bargains. The problem this time is there’s going to be fewer options and those bargains are going to be fewer and far between.”
McCarron says that bargain hunters may have to search twice as hard because fuel costs are forcing some airlines to shrink their schedules even more dramatically than usual after the summer season.
Other airlines are pulling out of some cities altogether. Next week, American and Continental leave Oakland International Airport which has already seen the demise of other airlines like Aloha and ATA.
Aviation Director Steve Grossman says this could signal a return to the days when business travelers could only afford to fly at the last second because the high costs kept everyone at home.
“And that is going to effect how people are going to spend their discretionary dollars which in this economy there are fewer of those also. …We are projecting fewer passengers over the next year or two.”
