ST. HELENA, Calif. (KCBS/AP) - State fire officials say the brush fire threatening St. Helena has consumed close to 300 acres and damaged at least two structures.
The brush burning is now 40 percent contained, however with winds expected to reach 20 miles per hour this afternoon Calfire is still concerned.
About 400 firefighters were on the fire line of the blaze that started Friday, whereas that number has risen to nearly 1,500 firefighters at the ready in Calistoga Saturday afternoon.
CalFire spokeswoman Nancy Carniglia says the fire has destroyed at least two structures and threatens 200 homes and several wineries.
Instead of going to a local evacuation center many residents spent the evening at a road block on Deer Park Road hoping to return to their homes.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
