SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Record-high gas prices, higher airfares and a slow economy are keeping many Americans at home this holiday weekend.
According to AAA’s latest survey, over 4.8 million California residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from their homes to celebrate the Fourth of July, a 0.8 percent decrease from last year.
Nationally, travel is down by 1.3 percent with only 40 million travelers are expected to go 50 miles or more from their homes.
This is the first decline in July 4th travel in almost a decade.
