SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Hundreds of volunteers are at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco carving turkeys and hams to help feed the needy on Thanksgiving.
The church is expecting to serve as many as 5,000 meals on Thursday. Glide serves meals to the needy everyday, but the Thanksgiving holiday brings many more people to the church.

"We have hundreds of turkeys and hams that we have ready for the volunteers to cut," said Glide Director Jean Cooper. "We also have all of the vegetables that we use for our salads."
Cooper said volunteers first serve breakfast and that demand for the free meals is up 30 percent this year.
Clients lined up as early as 5 a.m., wanting to be the first in line. Bradford Olds was the first in line on Thursday.
"Get up early in the morning like this, stand out here for hours just to get something to eat. But I appreciate it."
Cooper said the numbers could be larger than expected, but that they have plenty of food available for anyone who needs it.
