SOLANO CO., Calif. (KCBS) -- A million-dollar boast for history instruction in Solano County will send teachers back to school to learn how to better make history come alive.
”There are peaks and valleys in history. Places where you can understand what people are thinking and saying, and how they were living the texture of everyday life,” said Pam Tindel of the History Project at U.C. Davis, who will instruct the teachers on making history more fun.
The million dollar federal education grant comes after low history scores on Solano County children’s standardized tests.
Teaching history to English learners will be a special focus. “That’s what historians do, is read and analyze text. They use evidence in order to make arguments in writing,” said Tindel.
About 50 8th and 11th grade teachers will take place in the program, which takes three years.
