Director Guy Moshe wanted to make a powerful movie about the plight of child prostitutes in Cambodia. It's a tragedy that deserves our attention and concern. In the film we meet a burnt-out American cardshark (Ron Livingston), living in a kind of numb safety far from home. His hardened heart is touched by a 12-year-old Vietnamese girl Holly (Thuy Nguyen) who has been sold into sexual slavery. The best part of the film is the honest portrayal of the damaged Holly, who is only capable of seeing a possible friend who may help her escape as a boyfriend. Unfortunately, Livingston's big-hearted guy seems naive fo someone who has lived in Southeast Asia for years, though it is easy to root for his cause against the horrors and dehumanization of child prostitution and sexual slavery. The real problem with this movie is pacing...Moshe moves his camera slowly and with so much unneccessary detail...we lose interest and connection. Two hats..a good dvd rental and at least an attempt to shed light into darkness.
