Hollywood Chinese

(not rated)
Arthur Dong's entertaining and enlightening documentary chronicles Asian Americans in Hollywood, from silent days through The Joy Luck Club and Jet Li. Filmmakers like Ang Lee, stars like Luise Rainer (who won an Oscar for what was called "possibly the Chinese Gone with the Wind...The Good Earth") to cast members of The Joy Luck Club explain how images of Charlie Chan and Suzie Wong impacted the Chinese and Asian image in films. Terrific for anyone who is fascinated by film history (that would be me) ..or just loves the movies.
