SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Hundreds of homeless people turned out for Operation Homeless Connect in San Jose Thursday. The San Jose convention Center floor was filled with free shoes, free check-ups, free haircuts, even free foot baths.
Irene, a homeless woman living in San Jose, said her first priority, after the footbath, was to get a new identification card from the DMV.
Homeless Connect Coordinator Fernando Cassares says they expect to exceed the 700 clients who came to the last event in December. One reason is this year they're going mobile.
”So if we have people who are out right now roving in vans and they come upon folks who are in a wheelchair, or they’re physically unable to get here, they’re going to call us and outreach is going to go with their lift-van and pick them up and bring them on over,” said Mourine O'Mally Moore with the county.
