Hundreds Protest Pheromone Spray

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- Hundreds of people gathered in Corte Madera today in an effort to send a message to Sacramento. The protestors dressed in HAZMAT gear and respirators to try to convince the governor to cancel plans to spray pheromones as a way to control the light brown apple moth.

The state sprayed pheromones last year in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties in an effort to stop the moths from breeding.

State Department of Food and Agriculture Spokesman Steve Lyle says spraying should resume this summer.

“It’s a progressive approach with a safe product that is used safely that has shown no indication over the years of any harm to anybody,” said Lyle.
