Juno
|
(PG-13)
Juno is a movie that reminds us of the importance of the screenwriter. It starts with the word, and this original screenplay is written by a former stripper named Diablo Cody. Juno (Ellen Page) is a 16-year-old girl, pregnant after one sexual encounter with her friend (Michael Cera, who plays "loveable dork" better than any young actor around.) Juno is articulate and witty, surrounded by wonderful character players. Her supportive parents are well played by J.K. Simons and Allison Janney, but it is Jennifer Garner's luminous performance as a woman hoping to become a mother that is the real heart of the film. Clever comedies are hard to find these days, and Juno delivers. Four hats..and a hope for Best Original Screenplay and some actor nominations at Oscar time. Since it's an idealized view of teen pregnancy, hopefully the teen girls and guys seeing it will understand this is a movie, not real life.
