PACIFICA, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Caltrans has finished construction on a $43 million two-lane bridge just south of Pacifica that will connect Highway 1 to the southern end of the Devil’s Slide tunnels.

Listen  KCBS' Bob Melrose reports

The bridge sits 125 feet above Shamrock Canyon, a breeding ground for the California red-legged frog, a species famously featured in Mark Twain’s short story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

The bridge will be connected to the tunnels sometime in 2011 if the entire $325 million project stays on schedule.
