Man in the Chair
|
Rated PG-13
Michael Schroeder's casting was exactly right when the director/writer gave the role of Flash, an angry and cranky drunk, to Christopher Plummer. Plummer holds our attention every moment as a crew member on Citizen Kane who bemoans today's Hollywood while liberating dogs from kill shelters. When a film student Michael Angarano decides to make a movie about the squalid conditions many elders are forced to live in, Flash enlists his friends who have been put out to pasture by a youth-obsessed culture. A warm, smart film that reminds us of the way America does not place value on seniors who still have so much to contribute. Attention, my fellow dog lovers: there is an unneccesary cruel scene of a dog being euthanized. Otherwise, Plummer's unforgettable performance and the celebration of seniors makes this movie soar..earning it four hats.
