Married Life

 (PG-13)

In this original, quirky romance, Chris Cooper portrays a man who finds himself going mad with love for a young woman (Rachel McAdams).  He is wondering how to tell his loving wife (Patricia Clarkson) about it and decides on a bizarre way to deal with his desperate situation.  As insane as his idea is, there’s something about the buttoned-down, bottled-up Cooper that makes even the ridiculous seem believable.  The year is 1949, and the story is told in flashback by debonair best friend Pierce Brosnan.  Director Ira Sachs keeps the action moving, at 98 minutes it is an involving ride.  The period details, atmosphere and excellent performances make this a fun, unusual movie worthy of three hats.
