Mercury Mariner Voga
|
Continuing the program to move Mercury upscale from similar Ford models, the company has unveiled the Mariner Voga. And before you run to the dictionary, Voga means "fashion" in Italian--a name selected by designer Camilo Pardo.
Visually the Voga, a medium size SUV, is bright on the outside with lots of chrome front and back including 17 inch chrome wheels and roof rails. Inside beautiful white leather, with leather trim thru-out the interior.
Our test car also had the latest 4 cylinder engine--2.5 liter 171 horsepower coupled to a six speed automatic. This gives a surprising amount of pep in getting underway, a rather snarly noise when accelerating, and a quiet ride at highway speeds. Gas mileage, around 30 on the road.
Steering is easy and precise, ride and handling quite good. Passenger areas and cargo space very generous.
Price: for this ultra fancy model..about $30,000. Other Mariners are in the 20s.
