SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) -- The MUNI Metro subway started service again around 5 pm after closing due to flooding at the Van Ness station.
MUNI spokesman Judson True says the station shut down about 3:30 pm because of the flooding caused by a heavy downpour.
True says they tried to accommodate people who usually rely on subway service.
"We're putting as many buses as we can on the surface to service the customers during the afternoon commute," he said. "Right now we've got quite a few folks working to get the system going again."
True said all the commuters would feel the effects of the subway shutting down.
"Any time you see this kind of service disruption in the Metro it has system wide effects," he said. "There's no doubt we're going to have to be asking for patience from people today."
