No Swimming at Stinson Through Labor Day

STINSON BEACH (KCBS)  -- The waters off Stinson Beach will remain closed over the holiday weekend because authorities have confirmed another shark sighting. The beach itself is still open to visitors.

A fisherman reported seeing the shark about 300 feet off the north lifeguard station around 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Authorities confirmed the sighting, said officials with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Swimming at Stinson has been suspended since Sunday when a shark between eight and ten feet long was spotted about 125 yards offshore. It’s unclear whether the shark seen subsequently is the same one.

But if there are no other sightings, the soonest the beach could allow swimming again would be Tuesday September 2.
