 SAN MATEO, Calif. (KCBS) -- El Camino Real was closed Monday in both directions near the entrance of the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo because of a fatal traffic accident.
A VW Jetta broadsided a taxicab pulling out of the mall parking lot just after 6 a.m., setting both vehicles on fire.
The driver of the cab was killed, according to police. The juvenile driver in the Jetta ran from the accident scene, leaving his two teenaged passengers trapped inside. The passengers were rescued and taken to Stanford Medical Center. The driver was later captured.

Authorities say the cab driver may have been pulling into the lane of traffic against a redlight and was hit by the Jetta, which they say may have been speeding.
