SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KCBS) -- Alameda County Sheriff's Deputies say they have arrested a 33-year-old pregnant mother who allegedly kidnapped her six children from their father's home during a supervised visit in San Leandro.
An Amber Alert was cancelled shortly before noon Wednesday, but is being credited with Moore's capture.
Enja Moore, who is at least eight months pregnant, was located with the children at at a check cashing store on Lewelling Blvd. in San Leandro, Alameda County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Nelson said.
Moore was visiting her children at her estranged husband's house on Delano Street when, just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, the father returned from the rear of the house and realized Moore and his kids were gone, Nelson said.
Also missing was the father's green Mazda MPV minivan, which authorities believed Moore used to flee with her kids, ages 1, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11.
Authorities issued an alert and worked quickly to locate the kids, especially since the 3-year-old child needs insulin three times a day, Nelson said.
It wasn't surpring to locate Moore at the check cashing store because the van was low on gas and Moore "didn't have any money on her," Nelson said.
A call reporting the van came into the police department from a woman who had heard about the Amber Alert on the radio, and then saw the van in the strip mall parking lot.
