SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- For many families, money is tight, but they still want to take a vacation. So instead of jetting off to Paris or going to the Hawaii, more people are opting for RVs, and rentals are up ten percent this summer.
Glen Takahara, who was checking out the RVs at Family RV in San Jose, says he wants to hit the road and see the United States.
KCBS' Mike Colgan reports
Sales rep Rick Curts at the store says vacationers are looking for more bang for their buck this year, and RVs can deliver that.
"People still want a vacation," he said. "They still want to go out and spend some time with family and friends and enjoy themselves. RVing is one of the cheaper ways to do that."
It costs about $1,500 plus mileage to rent a RV for four days and drive about 1,500 miles.
