SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Congressman Mike Honda says it would be a rare moment -- and a high point -- to serve a president with a mind-set like Barack Obama's.
Honda, who has 30 years experience in public education, including serving as a San Jose middle school principal, tells KCBS he'd like to be considered for Secretary of Education under Obama.
"He has that disposition and understanding and willingness to look at research, and consider questioning the past assumptions that we've made in our efforts to reform education," Honda said.

The Congressman mentioned some big-name competition, including the chiefs of public schools in Chicago and New York, as well as Caroline Kennedy and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Honda said, "They're respectable people, but none of them have spoken about implementing a national dialogue about the issue of 'equity in education,'" which Honda said he has.
