SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -Since the California Supreme Court issued its decision on same-sex marriage, both sides of the issue have become galvanized.
"We are disappointed, we are surprised, because we do not believe it is a judicial function to redefine the basic institution of society," stated Glenn Lavey of the Alliance Defense Fund, referring to Thursday's ruling overturning a ban on gay marriage.
Prior to the decision, groups such as the Alliance Defense Fund collected about a million signatures to put an initiative on the November ballot to amend California's constitution to outlaw same-sex marriages.
If the measure qualifies for the ballot, it could bring out more conservatives in November, but those in support of gay marriage are not wavering.
"We know what the polls show, they know what the polls show, we're in a dead heat today," said Jeff Coors of Equality California.
