SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - High winds fanned flames that destroyed one home and damaged six neighboring houses in San Jose this weekend.
The fire was reported around 2:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon at a home on Limewood Drive, just east of Interstate 680.
According to San Jose Fire Captain Barry Stallard, the flames were estimated at 30 feet tall when fire crews arrived.
”The home was completely engulfed in flames. There was a ball of flames 30 to 40 feet tall and there was nothing but fire,” states Captain Stallard.
KCBS' Janice Wright reports
Captain Stallard says high winds contributed to the intensity and quick progression of the three alarm blaze which sent embers onto the roof of one home two blocks away and damaging it before residents were able to extinguish it with a garden hose.
San Jose firefighters were able to rescue a miniature pot-bellied pig and two dogs from a three-alarm fire. No injuries reported.
