SAN JOSE, Calif (KCBS) - You may be tempted to water your lawn and garden because of the hot weather, but water officials say to go easy on the hose, and not to water five days a week.

"You can have a perfectly healthy, nice lawn with only watering three days a week," says Santa Clara Valley Watering District Public Relations Manager, Susan Siravo. "We want you to keep in mind this whole week is expected to be warm, at least through Sunday."

One popular solution to dealing with water shortages is switching to more drought resistant plants.

"A lot herbs do well with less water and have the added bonus that their fragrant," tells Susan Tyler McVee, Manager at Summer Winds Nursery Associates.
