Schwarzenegger Talks Up Open Primary Measure in Silicon Valley

Gov. SchwarzeneggerSAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urged Silicon Valley executives to throw their weight behind a ballot measure political watchers hope will bring more moderates into the California legislature.

Schwarzenegger said he would devote much of his final year in office campaigning for the open primary measure on next year’s ballot. The governor sees it as a sure way to end lawmakers’ notorious deadlock.

“They’re scared of everything because their main purpose is to get re-elected,” Schwarzenegger said.

The governor ignored questions put forward about his legacy, even as he outlined several bold goals set out for the last days of his administration.

Schwarzenegger wants to “free up” state labor laws to create more jobs. He also wants to take steps towards privatizing California prisons now partly under the control of a federal receiver.
