Search for Overboard Man Suspended in San Joaquin River

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP)  -- The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 25-year-old man who fell off the boat he was driving in the San Joaquin River.

Coast Guard officials said the man fell overboard Saturday while boating near the Stockton deep water shipping channel and did not resurface.

A passenger on the 21-foot-boat reported the man missing just before 7 p.m. that evening. The Coast Guard launched searches by air and water that continued until 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

San Joaquin County sheriff's personnel searched the shoreline but failed to locate the man.

The Coast Guard said neither the missing man nor the passenger were wearing life jackets.
