SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) -- A measure to name a San Francisco sewage plant in honor of George W. Bush qualified for the November ballot today the same day the President is making a rare visit to the region.
Backers turned in petitions with more than 12,000 signatures earlier this month, far exceeding the minimum 7,168 needed to get in on the election. The city's Department of Elections confirmed today that they did indeed have enough valid signatures from registered voters.
The measure would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. It would need a majority of yes votes to pass.
Not everyone in liberal San Francisco thinks this is a good way to honor President Bush. The chairman of the city's Republican Party calls it an embarrassment and is vowing to fight the measure.
