Shooting Closes Hayward BART Station

HAYWARD, Calif. (KCBS)  -- BART's Hayward station was shut down for hours Monday afternoon after a shooting at its main entrance, which claimed one life.

According to BART spokesman Lynton Johnson, witnesses saw a group of young men standing near the station entrance when the shooting occurred. One teenager stumbled into the station and collapsed near the station agent's booth. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died. His identity has not yet been released.

A middle-aged man who apparently was not involved was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson said authorities are still looking for a suspect and is urging anyone who may have information to contact the BART police department.

Johnson said the closure didn't affect other routes, and there's no word yet when the Hayward station will reopen.
