SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KCBS) -- The Santa Clara City Council must weigh several dates for when the 49ers stadium deal will go before voters.
The most likely scenarios are a special election next April or putting the measure on the general election ballot the following June.
KCBS' Mike Colgan reports
The assistant city manager, Ron Garratt, said the city would have to spend about $600,000 for a special election, versus just $150,000 to make the financing deal part of the regular election cycle.
“That’s quite a discrepancy in cost,” he told KCBS reporter Mike Colgan. Garratt does not believe holding the election in June instead of April would affect the time table for construction.
The council takes up the issue at its meeting on Tuesday night.
Council members will also be presented with a study documenting an additional $300,000 a year in convention and hotel business the facility would bring into the city.
