Stabbing Death Alongside East Bay Freeway

FREMONT, Calif. (KCBS)  -- One man fatally stabbed another man on the shoulder of northbound 680 Friday morning, then left the body near the Vargas Road exit in Fremont, according to police.

Both men were in a van, apparently arguing, when their vehicle hit a pickup towing a recreational vehicle about 9 a.m. They stopped, got out of their van, and began to fight alongside the freeway.

One man was fatally stabbed; the other got back into the van and drove off, said Fremont Police Sgt. Jeff Swadener.

He was at a quarry off the Andrade exit.

The California Highway Patrol said the right lane of northbound 680 near the crime scene and the Vargas Road offramp would be closed until 3 p.m. because of the investigation.
