Stanford Students To Green County Jail

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Stanford University engineering students will begin installing sensors throughout the Santa Clara County Main jail as part of a study on energy efficiency.

In an agreement with the county, the school's Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency will monitor the temperatures, airflow, and heating and air conditioning activity in the downtown facility.

Students will then look for ways to save energy at the jail, then make recommendations for retrofits.

The analysis part of the project is expected to take about two years.
