The Kite Runner
|
Rated PG-13
San Jose author Khaled Hosseini's bestselling novel tells a tale of long-ago friendship and childhood trauma in Afghanistan. Director Marc Forster has brought to life the country, its children and the intense changes under the Soviets and later the current government. When a young man is given the opportunity to go back to his homeland and make amends, the movie picks up speed and we get invested in the journey. This is a sad, powerful tale, not a feel-good but a feel-a lot. It doesn't soar, but it is a story worth illuminating with some fine, heartfelt performances.
